Surgeland Records Releases First Single From Kelly Keeling Tribute CD
October 17, 2011 - For Immediate Release

Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin collaborate with Georgia vocalist/guitarist/arranger Anthony Z'sler to modernize Perfect Day

Surgeland Records, a division of the Georgia-based Serge Entertainment Group LLC, has released the first single from the upcoming Kelly Keeling tribute CD "Tune in to Mind Radio". The single is a modernized version of the melodic rock song "Perfect Day" which appeared on Carmine Appice's Guitar Zeus projects and also on Keeling's solo CD "Giving Sight to the Eye". The song is performed by Carmine Appice & Friends, and introduces Georgia musician Anthony Z'sler who arranged, mixed and mastered the tune, and also performed lead/background vocals and played acoustic guitar. Legendary drummer icon Carmine Appice, a co-writer of the song, plays drums and percussion along with Tony Franklin (Blue Murder, the Firm, Kenny Wayne Shepherd) on bass. Another Georgia musician Charlie Gilbert plays lead guitar. The track was written by Keeling, Appice, and Franklin. "Perfect Day" is available at: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/carmineappicefriendsintr2

About songwriter Kelly Keeling

If ever there was a powerful rock vocalist that has gone through so many incarnations and evolutions, it is Kelly Keeling. From his days with Baton Rouge and on to the band Blue Murder. To writing, singing and performing with guitarists John Norum (Europe) and Michael Schenker. Then joining forces with Carmine Appice's Guitar Zeus and vocalizing with some of the most renowned guitarists in the world like Yngwie Malmsteen and Vivian Campbell. The next incarnation was the Deep Purple-sounding band Heaven and Earth. Mascot Records released Keeling's first solo project in 2005 and he later became a vocalist for Trans-Siberian Orchestra. In 2008, Surgeland Records released "End of Ride Revisited" by Paris Keeling, a reissued project on which Keeling worked with guitarist/songwriter Marty Paris. Kelly Keeling is a Louisiana-born multi-instrumentalist and has been the principle songwriter in every band he has ever been in. He is always in demand as a songwriter, vocalist, producer and guitarist. More info is available at http://www.kellykeeling.net

MUSICIAN BIOS

Carmine Appice

Author, clinician, drummer... Carmine Appice first came to prominence as the percussionist with the late 1960s psychedelic band Vanilla Fudge. He contributed distinctive background harmonies with bassist Tim Bogert, adding to the group's high decibel sonic assault. After five albums, Appice and Bogert left Vanilla Fudge to form the blues rock quartet Cactus with vocalist Rusty Day and guitarist Jim McCarty. Eventually, Appice left Cactus with Bogert to join Jeff Beck in the power trio Beck, Bogert & Appice, and then later joined Rod Stewart's backing band in 1977, co-writing hit songs such as "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and "Young Turks". In 1978, Appice played drums on Paul Stanley's first solo album. He was a member of KGB featuring Ray Kennedy, Rick Grech, Mike Bloomfield and Barry Goldberg, and has recorded with Stanley Clarke, Ted Nugent, and Pink Floyd. He was the drummer for the bands King Kobra and Blue Murder, and toured with Ozzy Osbourne. Appice worked with Keeling in several projects including Blue Murder, King Kobra, and Guitar Zeus.

Anthony Z'sler

Born and raised in the metro Atlanta area, Anthony Z'sler began his musical journey at the age of 15. The first time he picked up the guitar, he knew that he was destined to write and play music. For the next few years, he played in different bands, using this opportunity to develop a unique personal style. In 2003, while playing local acoustic gigs, he realized that he wanted to pursue a career as a solo artist. A few months later he began recording his first solo project. His debut CD "Count the Stars" released in 2005 is loaded with heart-driven, hair-raising melodies that touch on love, relationships and faith. He began working with Serge Entertainment to promote "Count the Stars", which received considerable airplay and highly favorable reviews as he continued gigging throughout the Southeast including a stop to open for the legendary band Kansas. Since then, Z'sler has discovered his love for recording, mixing and producing. He recently released his second solo album titled "Dance with Me" and is working on a new pop/dubstep/dance album. Z'sler continues to record and mix local artists in his studio and hopes to soon release his new pop/dance album worldwide.

Tony Franklin A born performer who first took the stage at age 5, Tony Franklin got his big break in 1984 as bassist in stellar supergroup the Firm, with guitar legend Jimmy Page, vocalist Paul Rodgers and drummer Chris Slade (AC/DC, Manfred Mann's Earth Band). Franklin's signature fretless growl was a distinctive and instantly recognizable element of the band's first hit, "Radioactive". After two hit albums with the Firm, Franklin subsequently performed with Blue Murder (John Sykes, Carmine Appice), David Gilmour, Kate Bush, Whitesnake, Donna Lewis, Gary Hoey, Pat Travers and many others. An in-demand session bass ace, he has appeared on more than 150 albums. Franklin has released two solo albums, Brave New Tomorrow and Wonderland, and a bass instructional DVD. Franklin is currently on tour with guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Charlie Gilbert

Charlie Gilbert (Guitar/Piano/Singer/Song Writer) began playing at the age of 5 studying guitar, drums, and piano. He grew up indulging in all genres ranging from Blues, Rock, Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, Classical, Progressive Metal, and everything in between. He spent most of his youth performing in church playing Contemporary and Gospel music, until he reached 20 and started playing in many different cover bands. Gilbert is a completely self-taught musician/teacher and music has been the one constant throughout his life. Gilbert brings to the table a unique musical blend which works perfectly to create the edge that can cross every genre.

Paris Keeling Bios

Marty Paris

Marty Paris, co-founder of Paris Keeling and featured guitarist, is best known for creating the Skulls Project - a collaboration of independent musicians in Hoboken, New Jersey. Their last project First Rites, was released in 2005 and several of the tracks on Paris Keeling's End of Ride Revisited including "Color Blind" and "Tears of Heaven" have their roots in that project. He also was a member of the band Pamlico Sounds dating back to the 80s. Not only was Marty instrumental in creating Paris Keeling and in his roles as Executive Producer and writer/co-writer of 8 tracks, but much of End of Ride Revisited comes from his vision. Most of the album was recorded at Martys Studio 55 in North Carolina.

Kelly Keeling

Kelly Keeling, co-founder of Paris Keeling and the band's lead vocalist, commenced his career in music over 25 years ago at the age of 14. In 1990, he joined the rock band Baton Rouge as a vocalist and guitar player, and shortly thereafter the band was signed by Atlantic Records. Their album Shake Your Soul was released followed by Lights Out on the Playground a year later. That same year, Kelly was involved with his first platinum album, Alice Coopers Hey Stoopid, co-writing the song "Snakebite". In addition to Alice Cooper, Kelly has recorded, performed and/or toured with such distinguished musicians as Roger Daltrey, Don Dokken, George Lynch, Yngwie Malmsteen, Carmine Appice, Vinny Appice, Tony Franklin, Denny Laine, John Norum, Erik Norlander, Stuart Smith, and Michael Schenker. In 2005, Kelly released his first solo album Giving Sight to the Eye. He also contributed to the Michael Schenker Groups 25th anniversary CD Tales Of Rock & Roll and performed as lead vocalist on the debut Screamin' Lords CD Long Live Me. Kelly also toured with Trans-Siberian Orchestra in 2006 and 2007 as a lead vocalist. Since that time, he has been written, recorded and toured with the experimental band O'2L (featuring Al Pitrelli and Jane Mangini), Paris Keeling, and his own solo band. His band Baton Rouge reunited for the first time since the 1990's at Rocklahoma 2009.
